Gallery254 is an online contemporary visual arts space that aims to publicise mainly women artists, both the established and upcoming, to the local regional and global audience.
BACKGROUND
In the last couple of years, the Kenyan social-economic characteristics have been changing. Contemporary Visual Arts scene in Kenya is gaining an ever- growing interest especially by practicing Kenyan artists, the expatriate community, international collectors and tourists. This presents an opportunity of improving art perception and consumption among the indigenous Kenyans than ever before.
The indigenous Kenyan audience and market is still largely untapped. Owing to a combination of factors among them: the lack of formal creativity fostering studies in public schools, neo-traditional anti art perceptions and economic dynamics among others. The artist lacks adequate resources to self promote locally and has been forced by circumstances to target tourists and the expatriate market.

TheGallery254 project seeks provide a skill building and mentorship opportunity for up and coming female artists through a program where the already established artists will meet, inspire, exchange ideas in workshops and joint exhibitions and also train the new and younger artists
